BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 1

The preparation of construction drawings plays an important role in the design process from conceptual design stage right through to construction stage.

PROJECT 1 . experiencing construction

In this project, our task was to select an ongoing construction site which visibly demonstrates most of the subject topics covered in the syllabus. Were to form a group and to identify different types of building elements and its construction process, details and materials. Besides, we were to go for a site visit, study and record construction of different building elements, which we have learnt in this module. Specifically, we should be able to show and apply our knowledge in the details of the building construction drawing that we are to compile, thereby reflecting our understanding of the construction itself. Ming Hwee and I were doing the foundation part, so we gained a better understanding about the different foundations, their advantages and also their disadvantages compare to each other.

PROJECT 2 . experiencing construction

This project is the continuation of the first project. It is an integrated project where it involves construction detailing solution for Project 2b in Architecture Studio 2. This project is designed to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of construction and application from prior project. Emphasis in producing related manual construction drawing for steel and/or timber detail and specification.

In this project, i had decided to do detailing of the foundation, walls, roof, louvers and skylights of my design in Design Studio project 2B. I had included the details and methods of construction, connections of the elements in my design. From this, I had a better understanding about different elemnts of a house and also the way to construct and join them.
