BUILDING MATERIALS

In this module, we learnt about various types of materials used in building construction for example, glass, metal, plastic and so on. Besides, we also gone through with their functions and reasons why they had been chosen in this particular way. We also learnt about the properties of those materials, advantages & disadvantages of the materials used and others.

Project 1: space out- the maerial cube

In this project, we had to make two models of cubes by using paper and wood each.

With this two cubes, we had to bring out the definition of SPACE at the same time. Besides, the materials we used, how we play with those materials and the joining methods for those materials  were taking into the consideration in this project.

In this project, i had learnt about various materials that can use for these cubes, like the material "paper" not only the normal one, we can also use some other paper-based boards like modeling board or mounting board as well. On the other hand, for the material "wood" we can use satay sticks, balso woods or balsa sticks as well.

We have to be very concern about the method on how we are going to join the materials as well. Either by using super glue, uhu glue or using thread. Each of this will come out with different effect and the final product might be affected.

Project 2: the materiality of space

In this project, we had to choose a place or site for us to visit and study about that building.

So, my teammates (Ng Yuheng, Kelvin Fong, Sheilly and Ming Hwee) had decided to visit point 92 as the site for our study.

During the visit to Point 92 (Menara OBYU), we learnt about the maerials they used in different areas for example at the entrance they  have marine plywood as their ceilings and also the pandomo as their walls. We got to know why they used these specific materials and we also knew how these materials act their roles. All those materials had been chosen and used for a reason. And i was so grateful that I was able to learn and earn this knowledge through this project.
