Klang is strategically separated by Klang River, divided into North Klang & South Klang. The located site (3.04°N 101.4°E) is located along with Jalan Raja Hassan and Jalan Melayu with the context of Shaw Centrepoint, Klang City Square, and LRT 3 Klang Station. Following the past decades, Klang’s Royal Heritage serves an important role in Malaysia’s history. Besides the tangible heritage elements, Klang is also rich in those intangible heritage elements especially its local food and dishes. However, the rise of population, massive development, and consumerism have a negative impact on the preservation and continuation of Klang’s food cultural heritage. Intangible cultural heritage is an important factor in maintaining cultural diversity in the face of growing globalization. An understanding of the intangible cultural heritage of different communities helps with intercultural dialogue and encourages mutual respect for other ways of life.

This project aims to provide a gastronomic cultural community hub as an adaptable space, hosting community events, civic meetings as well as serving as a public cultural and education facility. Therefore, the “dumb-bell” principle is applied to the “Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk” by providing a public vibrant node that acts as a “magnet” that draws people from either end as an effort to preserve Klang’s Royal and cultural heritage. A community hub is introduced for individuals, organizations, and community groups in Klang to assemble and interact by implementing social development programs. At the same time, to preserve and celebrate Klang’s food cultural heritage. Its strategic location adjacent to the future LRT 3 Klang Station, forms an intersection platform to encourage space sharing and diversified use of space between different community groups. Also, the complimentary program of farming allows the civic center to serve as an urban oasis of openness and calm within a forest of built environment.
