culture history 2
This module is the continuation from Culture & Histroy 1. From this module, we will examine the principles, ideas and contributing factors that shaped Modern architecture. Besides, we were able to Identify some of the issues involved in the interrelationship between theory and design as exemplified in various historical periods and places.
PROJECT 1a . precedent studies (presentation board)
In this project, we were to form a group of 5 students. Each group will be selecting one building from the given list and conduct architectural analysis on the selected building. In mmy group with Ming Hwee, Yuheng, Ling Rong and Alfred, we had chosen Robie House by Frank Lloyf Wright to conduct the architectural analysis. We had a better understanding of this Robie Hous from this project. Besides, we were able to compare how architects have used architectural language in various historical periods and places.
PROJECT 1b . precedent studies (analytical essay)
This was an individual component analysis that was about answering the ‘why’ questions to further understand the underlying concepts and philosophy of the Modern Masters by using the physical evidence gained from group analysis. In the Analytical Essay, we were to write a comparison analytical essay of our chosen Modern Master with another Modern Master. In this project, I decided to compare Robie House by Frank Lloyd Wright with Barcelona Pavillion by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe. I got a better understanding about both buildings and the way they are similar or different with each other in the sense of materials and methods of construction because I had chosen this as my theme. Besides, I had learnt many different materials that are new and interesting for me and also got to know their advantages and the way to construct and handle them as well. All of these materials can bring out different feelings and atmospheres as required.
